Honey Bees turn up far less often in our Burngreave garden than Bumblebees, so it was lovely to watch one gathering pollen (on its head as well as legs!) from a Buddleia this morning. There are community hives locally as well as those tended by University students in Sheffield, from green roof projects, and by individuals. Urban bee-keeping is becoming important in boosting our seriously declining bee population, making the planting of open, pollen-rich garden plants especially valuable in any garden or balcony- it really makes a difference. Conditions: Sunny with a gentle breeze- dry again. Temperature: Max 21- Min 16C.
