On hot, sunny days like today, Blackbirds, Robins and this Dunnock sit in the sun in our garden, spread their wings and feathers, and use the heat to activate their parasites and mites, get them moving through their feathers, where they can more easily clean

them off! This beautiful Dunnock chose a spare patch and preened itself for ages. Providing an area of bare soil, or bark chippings, in full sun, can really help birds clean themselves in this way, and gives you a great view of their behaviour. Conditions: Cloud giving way to hot sun. Temperature: Max 19- Min 13C.
