Great (Hairy) Willow Herb, also known as Codlins and Cream, Cherry Pie or Apple Pie, is the largest of several native Willow Herbs, of which the best known is probably Rosebay Willow Herb. Great Willow Herb is very distinctive, growing commonly on damp grassland, river banks, ditches etc. It is less common in Scotland. It grows in dense patches, reaching a height of two metres. Out now, this bold flower apparently gets its nicknames from the delicate, fruity scent of its leaves (Codlin being an old variety of apple). Conditions: Lovely day of sun and cloud. Temperature: Max 20- Min 11C.
