New BTO research from Alderney has this week recorded an extraordinary fishing trip by one of these stunning birds- a Gannet covered 1,700 miles in a week, from Alderney, up the English Channel, across the North Sea into Scandinavian waters- and back! Together with the UN study that reports an all-time high in world-wide fish consumption, (which includes an increase in farmed fish) this shows how great the need for International cooperation on sustainable fishing is for the survival of many species. I haven’t covered Gannets yet this year, so here are some of last years photo’s as an accompaniment. Conditions: Breezy and cloudy with rain later. Temperature: Max 19- Min 15C.
