The Green Lacewing is one of those beautiful insects you need in the garden. Last night, doing a Moth watch and seeing hardly any moths, I photographed this one. They are common in gardens, though mostly out at night, and the adults and larvae just hoover up garden pests like aphids. Lacewings are even available on-line as a pest controller, as are the simple boxes that help them over-winter. There are 15 species in the UK and some are brown but this little Green one is the variety most often noticed. Conditions: The heat wave continues, with thunder rolling round today but very little rain. Temperature: Max 30- Min 19c.
