Lapwings one more time– males and females are very similar, but males have longer crests and it was interesting to watch this male’s crest in high winds last week! Note the buff edges to the wing feathers again- only buff-edged like this in winter. Lapwing populations are in danger- now on the Red List, it is thought that the loss of unimproved pastureland has severely affected their breeding success. Conditions: Dry, cloudy, milder day. Temperature: Max 7- Min 2c
